Art was anything you allow it to be. To others, it may be different. However, no one person has the same mind. At the start of this semester, I believed that art just needed to hold a value and was anything you wanted it to be. My idea still remains the same. Now that I am approaching the end of the semester, this art class has allowed me to see art in many many things. Sometimes art was an actual drawing while other times art was essays. Art is the craft that you make through time, focus, and value. The beauty of art is the way things can change over time. For example, something may not mean anything right now; however, we may come back later and realize the beauty and value of that certain thing.

My major is Engineering Technology. My career goals are to be a director or a manager in my field. I want to possibly open up my own company that could be bought out eventually or even compete with the major companies like Boeing and Northrup.

Art, aesthetics, and design could contribute greatly to my career since I can allow creativity to thrive. In production, aesthetics are a major aspect. If a product appears cheap and dull, customers may reconsider buying the part. The product has to attract customers and look professional to use. Design has the same significance too. Part of the design is to ensure that customers do not return items and are beyond satisfactory with the sold product. The only way to achieve these are through creative thinking to allow ideas to come to life.

As art will remain throughout the years, art enriches my life by allowing myself to attach my own values onto the finished design. For example, an artist may draw something that has a different meaning to another person. Not everyone will get the same exact feelings and emotions about the designs and work of the art. I started to collect action figures and oil paintings that reflect major emotions of myself. Seeing these art pieces, it constantly reminds me of what I stand for and what I have to do. I enjoy the beauty that art can bring to change a mood. It doesn’t happen anywhere else. Art stimulates the brain and the heart together in unison as you interpret and attach a value to the art piece. I strongly agree that artworks and art ideas help make myself a complete human being. It stimulates my emotions in a way that nothing else really does. Math and science are logical and rational while art allows me to wander freely and enjoy the freedoms. I believe art matters because if there wasn’t art, people would go crazy. Art, artists, and the Artistic Impulse suddenly disappearing would make people dull shells walking on the Earth. Everyone expresses themselves in art because art is anything the person holds value to. Without art, people would not be able to express themselves and soon, people would just become apathetic due to the lack of expression. If I felt like I didn’t matter, why should I care about a subject?

I definitely agree that “a great nation deserves great art”. As we look into history, we can see that art has served the people justice and wealth in ways that money and governments cannot. We see how beautiful people can get when expression is a right that humans are mandated to have. We also see that when people are deprived of expression, a nation suffers greatly from the dullness and suffering of the people. For example, Cambodia’s genocide took away the people’s expressions and faith. Many were killed and fear struck to people to flee. The nation suffered greatly as the economy went down and war struck.

As this semester comes to a close, I have experienced different ways art can bring happiness and utility to my life. I was never a creative individual, but forcing art to bring expression has greatly awakened my views on many things. Art will hold a special place for me in my life as I continue on. I truly believe that expression is a right that everyone has and no one should be able to deprive anyone of this. As I continue on in my career, the creativity and aesthetics of art will allow me to dive deeper into my method of expressions.
